“Syd Mead | Progressions” traveling exhibit opens Jan 27 2012 in Glendale, CA.

The premier public showing for “Syd Mead | Progressions”  is planned for January 27, 2012 at the Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale, California.

“Syd Mead | Progressions” is an exhibition celebrating more than 50 years of Syd Mead’s talent, vision, and imagination. It highlights his career preparation at Art Center School and his ongoing creative work, which continues to this day. This exhibition spans personal and commercial works and will include his paintings, sketches, and drawings. Featured pieces of art include “Hypervan” and iconic series of 4 paintings, one of which is highlighted in his 4 part DVD series “Techniques of Syd Mead”: “Bar Basque Food Parc” – his final design of an upscale New York City Eatery that has become the “hot spot” in Manhattan, and “Pebble Beach” triptych – created for the 2000 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Also, Syd is creating an all new piece, yet untitled, that will debut at the opening and travel with the exhibition. Attendees will get a glimpse into his thought process, unique approach, and detailed technique as they move from idea to perfect visual execution in his finished pieces of artwork. They will experience selected drawings and color preliminaries showing the progression from his idea through to the final artwork.

David Igo Interview

David Igo 2011

First thing you need to know about David Igo is that he’s funny. You need to know that because you may not see it coming until he’s standing in front of you and 5 minutes later you’re wondering … “where did this guy come from?” … Colorado as it turns, out. He’s not the introverted artist type.  He’s a scene stealer. His story is unique and inspiring…

David Igo, founder of SatelliteSoda, is a full-time concept artist at Sideshow Collectibles. He pretty much gets paid to do whatever he wants and is completely spoiled.

La Luz de Jesus 25th anniversary show and book release part 2, opens tomorrow Friday, Nov 4th

Portrait of Billy Shire by Shawn Barber

Billy Shire celebrates 25 years with huge group exhibition & book

Part 1: October 7–30
Opening receptions: October 7 & 8, 8–11 PM

Part 2: November 4–27
Opening receptions: November 4 & 5, 8–11 PM

To celebrate 25 years of groundbreaking art shows, Billy Shire presents his biggest event ever: La Luz de Jesus 25, a major retrospective exhibition and companion book. The show, offering work by more than 260 artists who have exhibited at the gallery over the years, is so extensive that Shire has split it into two parts, each with two opening nights. As you can see from the list below, the participating artists are a veritable Who’s Who of art world luminaries. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see all these amazing artists together in one show.

The book, La Luz de Jesus 25: The Little Gallery That Could, features images of all the art in the show, a personal anecdote about Shire and the gallery written by each artist, essays by La Luz gallery directors and a foreword by Shire. The book is much more than a simple record of this remarkable exhibition. Together, the images and essays present a history of La Luz de Jesus through the eyes of the artists whose careers are intertwined with Shire and his gallery.
