Glenn Arthur Solo Exhibition "The Mechanics of Seduction"

“The Mechanics of Seduction“
The Solo Show of Glenn Arthur
Glenn Arthur’s “The Mechanics Of Seduction” is a series of paintings exploring the fascination, power and sensuality found within the human machine. Inspired by an era defined by industrial enlightenment and artistic innovation, Glenn fuses together a fanciful blend of elaborate and historical aesthetics. Each delicately painted female entices the viewer through mechanical elements while alluring them with hypnotic beauty into a world of ornate elegance wrapped in a cloak of disquieting surrealism. The juxtaposition of organic emotion and unfeeling apparatus demonstrates the unyielding, seductive romance between human and machine reminding us of the inherent desires that fuel us all.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Saturday, October 22nd, from 8-11pm
Location:
Art Whino Gallery
120 American Way
National Harbor, MD 20745
Reception begins at 8pm
Show end date: November 13th
The event is FREE and open to the public.
About the Artist
Glenn Arthur is a self taught visual artist from Orange County, California. Born in February of 1979, he grew up in a conservative, religious household with little to no influence in art. After shedding his roots he quickly realized that creating art would be his calling. Although he constantly doodled and sketched throughout his youth, Glenn did not come into painting until later in life when a friend forced a paintbrush into his hands and said, “You need to do this!”
Since then Glenn has been diligently working on creating his own brand of beautifully painted images. Using acrylic paints on wooden panels, he adds in elements and influential symbols of his past and present to each piece. Beyond the aesthetics of his artwork, Glenn brings an overwhelming sense of passion to his paintings. Touching on themes of love, death, conflict and duality, Glenn’s art tells stories of strength and hope through emotion and sentiment with his sensual beauties and signature hummingbirds.

This Saturday, September 3rd the Hive Gallery Hosts Couples Edition of Feminality Art Show throughout September
For the past six years the Hive Gallery and Studios in Los Angeles has been the feeding ground for the burgeoning Los Angeles art scene. In that tradition, for the entire month of September, Hive will be hosting Feminality – a unique exhibition showcasing twelve of the most talented artist couples of this generation. These include renowned artists Jessica Ward & Apricot Mantle, Dan Barry & Edward Robin Coronel, Tim & Emma Mount, Erlend & Pamela Tait, Tracy Tomko & Erin Asmussen, Meats Meier, Misaki Sawada, plus many more.
Feminality, the brainchild of graphic artist and Wizard Sleeve Toys founder, Mike Franco, was originally started back in 2009 to drawn attention to the ever-growing female art community in the lowbrow/pop surrealism genre.
“I started my toy website (www.WizardSleeveToys.com) back in 2009 and simultaneously started developing the idea for this show,” says Franco. “I was drawn to the works of several female artists and wanted to enable them and create a showcase for their work.” Feminality was created to do just that.
The first Feminality Art Show debuted at the Hive Gallery back in November 2009 and featured the uber talented Tara McPherson live painting a mural alongside a number of upcoming female artists such as Amy Botello, Aunia Kahn, Tofusquirrel and more.
During Art Basel 2010, Feminality Art Show tried a different approach introducing the first round of the couples edition. Artist couples would each create their own piece of art and then do one piece together. “It’s exciting to put great artists together in this unique couples setting and situation. I’m sure they will not disappoint”, said Franco. Franco plans to expand Feminality into other regions of the country.
The next show will coincide with Art Basel Miami (December 1st-4th).
The Feminality gallery event opens Saturday, September 3rd from 8:30PM – 12:30AM at the Hive Gallery, 729 S. Spring Street in Los Angeles, CA. Admission is $8. Several artists will be on-hand for the event.
All of the art created for the Feminality Art Show will be available for sale to the public both online and at The Hive Gallery throughout September.

Rob Reger's 'Encyclopedia of Hallucinations' opens this Fri September 2nd @ La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Hollywood, CA.

Check out Rob’s debut ST video here!!
and for Los Angeles friends, after you watch that make sure to clear your Friday night
for Rob Reger’s “Encyclopedia of Hallucinations” @ La Luz de Jesus Gallery!
La Luz de Jesus will be hosting an exhibition by artist Rob Reger titled “The Encyclopedia of Hallucinations” This is an interactive show: attendees will be asked to write a short description of what they see in Reger’s paintings. The best of these writings will be documented on the La Luz de Jesus website
The concept for Rob Reger’s “The Encyclopedia of Hallucinations” has its roots in Reger’s childhood camping trips when his father taught him to draw forms from a squiggle with a stick in dirt. The future artist and his father drew mainly faces, animals, and monsters and then created narratives from these figures.
As a result, Reger learned to experience pareidolia, to ‘find things in other things,’ a concept that is still with him to this day. The Encyclopedia of Hallucinations gives the vie
Imagination is Rob’s inspiration, and though his suggestive abstract forms, Reger gives his viewers the freedom them to find their own visions.
In his own words: “Looking back, I see this early experience as shaping my fascination with suggesting recognizable forms in abstract work and the tendency to personify forms and ‘find’ figures within general chaos. I inspire others, through specific forms that suggest forms, to use their imagination to find their own forms.”
Reger’s art aesthetic and his design house, Cosmic Debris, grew from a tangle of roots joining the DIY punk scene of the ’80s with guerilla art, surrealism, and the psychedelic explosion of the ’60s. As the founder, Creative Director, and President of Cosmic Debris, Reger introduced the world to Emily the Strange -an icon of empowerment for young alternative girls and outsiders of all ages. Like the little black-haired muse
herself, Reger fuels his magination with music, the natural environment, science and the artistic explorations of his friends and other inspiring figures.
Reger received a BFA from University of California, Santa Cruz and a MFA in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute. His oil paintings, printmaking, watercolors, and collage have exhibited in galleries around the world, including: Tokyo, Paris, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Berlin, Milan, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Santa Cruz.
